Webinar: What Mama Didn't Tell Us About Body Love & Eating Disorders
Time & Location
About The Event
"For some of us, eating disorders and body love were not regular topics our parents/guardians discussed with us while growing up. Cultural differences, childhood and intergenerational trauma, and the arduous demands of capitalism robbed some of our parents'/guardians’ joy and ability in parenting. Unable to instill in us with positive self-esteem or reinforce positive messages on nourishment, our parents actions, or lack thereof, left lasting effects that prevented us from having peaceful relationships with our bodies and food into adulthood. In this talk, Gloria Lucas, the founder of Nalgona Positivity Pride (NPP), will share essential information on how to rethink our relationship to both food and ourselves. Going beyond “over the counter body-positive messages” Gloria will expand our understanding of the emotional deficiencies and gives participants the ability to examine our mothers’ (or our mother figures) narratives that aids us from repeating generational patterns that do not serve us. Moreover, Gloria will also examine the roles white supremacy plays in toxic beauty standards, fatphobia, and chaotic eating. NPP has put together important lessons that can help us transform the hurt in order to create a strong future for ourselves."
Recording will be sent to participants so do not worry if you cannot attend the live webinar.
